I know this will most likely come up in a later article, and you did touch on this in your On the Line article, but uh, it’s worrisome the amount of adult novels that use r*pe and SA solely to make the character ✨traumatized✨ without really delving into how debilitating the effects are.
Sometimes, they even hide SA as “CNC” even though safe words, boundaries, etc. were never discussed (*looks directly at Haunting Adeline and Sins on their Bones*). Sucks especially when it’s graphically described and a trigger for many.
It's extremely interesting to observe how SA/rape is treated throughout genres. I would even argue that at least On The Line agrees that sexual assault IS BAD. The way Jai is treated in the book, especially in the later prison scene is awful. What happens to him should be considered sexual assault within the novel, and what's worse is that HE IS 17!!!! This is an adult woman preying on a child who is a prisoner, which just has so many layers to how fucked up it is. My fear is that the next book is just not going to touch on this or take it as seriously. And it's awful.
